5 Reasons Why it Sucks to be in Debt

Having struggled with high levels of debt for many years, I discovered that there are hundreds of reasons why it sucks to be in debt.  I have written this post because I have seen so many people battling high levels of debt and don’t seem to have a way out.  And that really sucks!

The following are 5 reasons why I decided that it sucks to be in debt and you may find you are dealing with similar issues.

I found that I never seemed to have any extra money to do the things that I really wanted to do.  We often had to fore go weekends away or dinner out with friends as there always seemed to be another bill that needed paying.  My debt always seemed to suck away any extra cash from me and my family.

I found that debt increased my stress level and that had serious implications on my health as my blood pressure was hugely raised and I began to suffer from major headaches.  It also lead to sleepless nights and angry confrontations with my wife.

Dealing with nasty people’s phone calls and rude, demanding letters really got to me.  I understand that the person on the other side of the phone has a job to do and that they did not personally hate me, but that is how their calls made me feel.  I dreaded answering the phone in the evening and hated collecting the post.

Being in debt and dealing with all the related stresses changed me as a person from a fairly laid-back, relaxed kind of guy to an angry and frustrated bloke.  As the debt diminished, I began to see many of the ‘old me’ returning.

Debt brings with it huge insecurity.  Many of the phone calls and letter that I received threatened to send that Sheriff around to my home and to attach my furniture, etc.  As I worked from home, this would have been disastrous to say the least.  The insecurity of not knowing what I would have in my home when I returned from seeing a client was almost unbearable.

These are some of the reasons that caused me to make the decision to get out of debt and not to be under the control of other people any longer.
